Sooryakaant tripaaThee 'niraalaa', one of the four major pillars of Chhaayaavaad, was born on 21 February 1899 in Medinipur district of present-day West Bengal. His father was originally a resident of Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh and worked as a constable here. Suryakant had studied both Bengali and Hindi languages.
After working in Medineepur i.e. then MahiShaadal from 1918 to 1922, he came to Calcutta where he edited 'Samanvay' and 'Matwaalaa'. After this he worked in Lucknow till 1940. In 1942, he came to Allahabad i.e. present day Prayagraj and died here on 15 October 1961.
Juhee Kee Kalee' is his first published poem. He also introduced free verse in poetry. He has published 14 poetry collections, 11 novels, 5 story collections and 6 essay collections. Apart from this, he also wrote children's literature and did many translations.
