
Post-independence poet Mahendra Bhatnagar was born on 26 June 1926 in Jhansi. He did his M.A. (1948) and received doctorate degree (1957) from Nagpur University. In 1978, he was appointed as Professor of Hindi Language in Tashkent University. After this he remained associated with many universities in India. Apart from all this, he was also associated with the music and drama department of All India Radio and many other literary institutions.
He wrote in both Hindi and English languages. Eleven of his poetry collections are published in English. His poems are included in many collections and many research papers have also been done on them. Many of his books are also published in Hindi like - 'kavishree', 'joojhate hue' , "vikRt rekhaae(n) dhundhale chitr', 'boond neh kee deep hRday kaa' etc.
Mahendra ji, awarded and honored by the Madhya Pradesh government, passed away on 27 April 2020.
