Gopal Singh Nepali, whose real name was Gopal Bahadur Singh, was born on 11 August 1911 in Bettiah, Bihar. From childhood, he wrote poetry, and by his youth, he had already become one of the popular poets. In addition, he worked in journalism and the film industry. He was associated with the editing of magazines such as Sudha, Ratlam Times, Yogi, and Punya Bhoomi. In 1944, he moved to what was then Bombay and wrote more than 400 songs for around 60 films. He even composed music for some of his own songs. He also tried his luck in film production. His first poetry collection, Umang, was published in 1933. This was followed by several other collections of poems and songs — Panchhee, Raginee, Panchamee, Naveen, and Himalaya Ne Pukaaraa. He passed away suddenly on 17 April 1963.
