Shailendra's poems on Kaavyaalaya

Shailendra, whose original name was Shankardas Rao, composed songs and poems that wove deep human philosophy into simple and effortless words. Born on 30 August 1923 in Rawalpindi (now in Pakistan), Shailendra had already gained popularity as a poet before he started writing lyrics for films. He penned numerous songs rich in meaning and emotion for movies. He was awarded the Best Lyricist Filmfare Award multiple times.

'Nyautaa Aur Chunautee' (1950) is the only poetry collection published during his lifetime. After his passing away on 14 December 1966, several other compilations of his poems and songs were published. His countless songs are still alive on people's lips even today, bestowing immortality upon his poetic legacy.
