Nathooraam Sharmaa, who wrote poems under the pen name Shankar, was born in 1859 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He used to write poems in Brajbhasha, Khadi Boli Hindi and Urdu. He also had knowledge of Sanskrit and Persian. His works were regularly published in 'Saraswati' magazine published under the editorship of Mahavir Prasad Dwivedi.
He received the titles of 'Bhaarat-Brajendu' and 'Saahitya-Sudhaakar'.
- Anuraag Ratna, Shankar Saroj, Geetavalee, Kavitaa Kunj, Shankar Satsai etc. are his famous works.
Shankar ji, known as Mahakavi, the great poet, passed away on 21 August 1932.
